BLOOMINGTON, Indiana — Indiana University Recreational Sports seeks an Aquatics Coordinator.

Job Summary: The Aquatics Coordinator assists with the management and supervision of the Recreational Sports aquatic facilities, programs, special events and personnel for the students, faculty, staff and public members of IU Recreational Sports – over 1.9 million users annually. This position includes the supervision of 70 lifeguards, 35 swim instructors, twelve head lifeguards, and eight outdoor pool managers at four aquatic locations: the Counsilman/Billingsley Aquatic Center (CBAC) at the Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC), Royer Pool and Pool 194 at the School of Public Health (SPH), and the IU Recreational Sports Outdoor Pool Complex. This position coordinates lifeguard staffing for all indoor and outdoor pools; development and implementation of the aquatic emergency action plans; facility operations for all indoor and outdoor pools; and all aquatic programs and other participant focused programming. This also includes facilitating all outside user groups to ensure maximum use of aquatic spaces, including hosting competitive aquatics events at the CBAC. This position reports to the Program Director for Aquatics, works with a highly collaborative aquatic team made up of an Assistant Director of Aquatics, one Graduate Assistant and two Program Assistants, and contributes to all unit priorities. The salary range is $32,000-$42,000 and Indiana University provides an excellent benefits package. This position is similar to “Aquatics Facility Manager” and “Aquatic Coordinator” positions in Parks and Recreation as well as “Operations Manager” or “Waterpark Manager” positions in the National Waterparks Association.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or related field and experience supervising part-time/temporary employees and aquatic risk management.

Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI). Current Standard First Aid, CPR/AED, Preventing Disease Transmission/Universal Precautions certifications or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment. Knowledge of computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook). Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and exchange information, including ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals, both internal and external constituents.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Recreation or related field in a college/university, aquatic recreation setting. Current certification as an American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT), Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT), and/or Water Safety Instructor (WSI). Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.

Salary Range: 32,000-42,000

Salary Plan: PAE

Salary Grade: 2AX
