CLAREMONT, CA — The Mount St. Mary’s University men’s water polo a pair of games on Day One of the 2026 Gary Troyer Tournament as the Mountaineers managed Division III No. 5-ranked Chapman University, 16-10, at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges’ Haldeman Pool and took an 11-10 setback against Division III No. 2 the University of Redlands at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges’ Axelrood Pool.

The win and loss set the Mount’s record at 7-10 in 2026.

Luka Urosevic led the way versus Chapman with seven goals, while Will Matthews topped the Mountaineers with five of his team’s 10 tallies facing Redlands.  Urosevic added an assist and Matthews dished out a team-high four assists across both games. Aleksandar Radosavljevic aided the cause with five goals as he notched two in the Chapman contest and three in the meeting with Redlands.

In the first quarter of the game against Chapman, Urosevic cashed in an opportunity off an assist from Matthews.  Giacomo Graff found the back of cage with help from Giannis Skliras and Urosevic was then able to beat the goalie to put another tally on the sheet,  Urosevic then scored two more goals, with assists credited to Aaron Tarr and Jack Fox.

Radosavljevic deposited a shot off an assist from Urosevic as the Mount concluded the first quarter with a 6-4 lead.

In the second quarter, the Mount was held scoreless until there were two minutes left prior to Urosevic adding three more tallies to the scoresheet. Matthews was credited for an assist on the first shot, with the Mount going into halftime with a 9-6 margin.

The Mount kept its energy high in the second half as the team started the backend of the game with a goal from Nathan Valentine off an assist from Matthews. Matthews found the back of goal off an assist from Tarr to widen the gap between the two programs.

Leading 11-8 at the conclusion of the third quarter, Fox shot and scored to open the final eight minutes. Matias Miranda lined home a shot followed by another goal by Fox as the Mountaineers continued to pull away from the Panthers. Radosavljevic converted a feed from Ivan Morales prior to AJ Waldfogel lining in a penalty shot for the 16-10 final score. .

Milan Miskolczi and Matthew Royer each served time in goal with Miskolczi recording seven saves.

Taking on Relands to close out the day, the Mount struck first with a goal by Fox off an assist by Matthews. Radosavljevic found the back of goal next and then Matthews beat the goalie to score his first goal. Tarr was credited as an assist on Matthews’ goal as the Mount went up 3-2 leading into the second quarter.

The tables turned in the second frame as the Mount was held scoreless for the entirety of the quarter with Redlands going on a 3-0 run to acquire  a 5-3 lead at the halftime horn.

Mount St. Mary’s tied the game at six-all as Tarr Matthews and Radosavljevic erased the Mountaineers’ deficit in short order. Matias Miranda set up Tarr for his goal and then Tarr was credited as an assist on Radosavljevic’s goal.

The game became a thriller in the fourth quarter as the teams went back-and-forth prior to the Bulldogs calling game with Mount falling 11-10.

Matthews notched the inaugural goal of the fourth quarter before Radosavljevic arched in a penalty shot. The final two goals of the game came from Matthews as he dented the twine for the Mountaineers to tie the game at 10-all prior to Redlands taking the contest in the waning seconds of competition.

Miskolczi stopped 10 shots in taking the loss for the Mount.
