LA JOLLA, Calif. — Powered by multi-goal performances from Ari Karampetsou and Emma Gustafsson, the No. 11-ranked University of Michigan water polo team defeated No. 14/host the University of California-San Diego, 10-7, at Canyonview Aquatic Center.

Michigan (13-7) grabbed an early advantage as Karampetsou and Gustafsson each found the back of the net within the first three minutes courtesy assists by Maddy Scarth. UC-San Diego (7-7) answered with a goal as the Wolverines carried a 2-1 lead into the second quarter.

The second quarter opened with Gustafsson setting up Karampetsou for her second goal of the night. Harriet Dickens followed with a power-play scpre, and Emilia Mladjan added another to give Michigan a 5-4 lead heading into halftime.

After the Tritons evened the score at five, Gustafsson netted two goals and Karampetsou added another to push the Wolverines ahead by three. Issy Jackson answered another Tritons’ tally with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter.

Dickens later set up Mladjan for her second goal of the night, helping secure the U-M victory.

Sophia Bunnell made 15 saves in the win, finishing the four-game Spring Break trip with 40 total stops.
