SAN DIEGO, Calif. —  For the second time in less than a week, the No. 14-ranked Princeton University women’s water polo team recorded 24 goals as it took down the Division III No. 8 Whittier College Poets, 24-4, following a 12-10 loss to host/No. 19 San Diego State University at the Aztec Aquaplex on the first day of the Aztec Invitational..

Facing the host Aztecs, Princeton was unable to top its host in taking a two-goal loss.

After the two teams exchanged pairs of markers, the Tigers received tallies with under 90 seconds left by Vivian Golub and a strike by Kendall Wyer at the buzzer.

Shanna Davidson opened the second quarter to extend the Tigers’ lead to three, 5-2. However, SDSU made a run, using a 4-1 run to tie the game at six-all with 2:21 left in the first half. A goal by Golub with 22 seconds remaining made it a seven-all contest at the break.

Davidson started the third stanza with a tally, but San Diego State answered with four consecutive goals to jump in front, 11-8, with six minutes left. After the two opponents exchanged tallies, Wyer got the Tigers within two as the clock read 1:14, but Princeton could not get closer.
