BRONX, N.Y. – Fordham’ University’s George Papanikolaou and Luca Silvestri each scored five times to lead the No. 17-ranked Rams to a 17-11 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) victory over the Seahawks of Wagner College at home in the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
With the win, Fordham moved to 12-3 on the season, 8-0 in MAWPC play, extending their league win streak to 26 games.
The Rams opened with a 5-2 lead after the first quarter on the strength of a hat trick by Papanikolaou. Silvestri and Lucas Nieto Jasny also scored in the frame.
Fordham increased the lead to seven with another five-goal quarter to lead 10-3. Silvestri posted two goals in the quarter to complete his own hat trick with Christos Loupakis also netting a pair.
The Rams netted five more goals in the third quarter and two in the fourth quarter for the 17-11 final, hitting their average for goals in a game.
Individually, Papanikolaou led the way with five goals and three assists, while Silvestri also tallied five goals to go with two steals and three blocks. Balazs Berenyi added three goals and two steals with Loupakis having two goals, two ejections drawn and two penalties drawn. Nieto Jasny and Jacopo Parrella had the remaining tallies for Fordham.
In net, Riccardo Di Giuseppe finished with five saves and an assist in three and a half quarters of play.
