PRINCETON, N.J. — The No. 17-ranked Fordham University water polo team opened play at the Princeton University Invitational by defeating Division III No. 3 California Lutheran University, 18-11, at DeNunzio Pool.
With the score tied at three-all in the first quarter, Fordham scored the final three goals to acquire a 6-3 lead after eight minutes of action.
After extending the lead to 9-4 by halftime, the Rams outscored Cal Lutheran, 5-0, in the third quarter to pull away in the match with three of those goals coming from Christos Loupakis.
Loupakis ended the match with a game-high five goals, while Lucas Nieto Jasny notched two goals, four assists and three steals. Mark Katsev also had two goals in the contest with Nir Gross making his Fordham debut with a goal and two assists. Eight other Rams had one goal in the match.
In net, Thomas Lercari played the first three quarters, allowing four goals with seven saves. Riccardo Di Giuseppe closed out the game with three stops and a steal in the fourth quarter.
