ERIE, Pa. — No. 20-ranked George Washington University closed out the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Crossover weekend hosted by Mercyhurst University at the Hallman Aquatics Center with a 23-9 defeat of Salem University.

The Colonials built a 5-3 by the conclusion of the first quarter and never looked back by outscoring the Tigers 7-0 in the second quarter to widen the gap to 12-3 entering halftime.  Salem attempted to fight back in the third quarter, but George Washington put up six strikes in the frame prior to pumping home five markers to the Tigers’ pair in the fourth quarter.

Nikola Krstonosic led Salem with three goals, three assists, two exclusions drawn and a steal. Chad Rowley came away with a goal, an assist and a pair of exclusions drawn, while Marko Zivojinovic tallied a goal, three assists and a pair of exclusions drawn.  Ivan Zivojinovic, Blake Wind, Manuel Soto Estela and James Fenner all added one goal for Salem.

For George Washington, Theodoros Pateros racked up six goals and an assist, while Nick Schroeder (three goals, three assists), Andrija Sekulic (three goals, two assists), Leo Lueddemann (two goals), Viktor Jovanovic (two goals, one assist) and Michael Wheeler (two goals) also chipped in muli-score games.  DJ Davis, Bender Russo, Kalan Smith, Ford Bruggen and Logan Kalish each stroked home solo strikes to account for the remainder of their team’s offense.
