LEWISBURG, Pa. – The No. 5-ranked Fordham University water polo squad kept its Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) winning streak alive as the Rams defeated host Bucknell University, 21-11, Mount St. Mary’s University, 23-5, and Mercyhurst University, 26-3, in a trio of league contests during the Bucknell Invitational.
The wins improve Fordham’s record to 9-0 on the season and extends the Rams’ conference winning streak to 48 straight regular season wins over MAWPC opponents.
Squaring off with the host Bison, Fordham overcame Bucknell thanks to a second quarter surge.
Tied at six-all midway through the second quarter, the Rams closed out the half with three unanswered goals as freshman Diego Tresa, freshman Karlo Dragosevic and junior Luca Provenziani finished shots to stake the defending MAWPC Champions to a 9-6 lead at the break.
The Rams extended the lead to 10-6 on a goal from sophomore Alessandro Salipante 38 seconds into the third quarter and then scored three straight later in the frame to turn a 12-8 lead into a 15-8 margin.
Junior Andras Toth led the Rams in scoring with four goals, while freshman Petar Kulas, Dragosevic, Tresa and Provenziani each added three.
Taking on Mount St. Mary’s, Fordham scored the first nine goals of the match and never looked back.
Kulas accounted for four of the Rams’ tallies, while Salipante added three as a total of 13 different Rams scored at least one goal in the contest.
Fordham repeated the pattern against Mercyhurst as the squad jumped out to a 15-0 led by halftime.
Sophomore Charlie Martin, along with Tresa, led Fordham with four goals to accompany a trio by sophomore Soren Jessen.
Similar to game two, the victory was a team effort as 13 Rams notched at least one goal.
