CARLISLE, Pa. — No. 5-ranked/No. 1 position/Pacific Coast Division Champion the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) received five goals from Player of the Game Matty Winters (Jr. Malibu, Calif.) as the Bruins overwhelmed No. 15/No. 7 position/Midwest Division Champion Grand Valley State University, 11-4, in the 2026 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship Fifth Place game hosted at the Carlisle YMCA Aquatic Center.
UCLA – which previously placed second (2024), fifth (2010), sixth (2008), seventh (2011) and ninth (2023) at the Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship – jumped out to a 3-0 lead less than three minutes into the game as Helene MacBeth (Jr., San Clemente, Calif.) (5:44) and Winters (4:54, man-up; 4:01) flushed shots. Brooke Henry (So., Hudsonville, Mich.) put GVSU on the scoreboard at 3:47, but the Bruins got the goal back prior to the conclusion of the first quarter as Samantha DiMarco (Jr., Eugene, Ore.) spun in a strike at 2:22 to pad UCLA’s lead to 4-1.
In the second quarter, Winters completed a hat-trick by denting the twine courtesy a man-up marker with 5:18 until halftime to build UCLA’s lead to 5-1. The Lakers shrank their deficit back to three before the break as Maya Wiltrout (So., Kentwood, Mich.) zipped in a shot with 40 seconds left in the frame to close Grand Valley State within 5-2 at the contest’s midway point.
The Bruins iced the victory in the third quarter as MacBeth (6:25, man-up; 5:11, man-up) and Lindsey Hughes (Jr., San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) combined for a three-goal spurt to inflate UCLA’s lead to 8-2. Sophia Gaier (Fr., New Lenox, Ill.) terminated the run with a power-play strike for GVSU at 3:47 as the Lakers trailed 8-3 following 21 minutes of action.
Winters brought the curtain down on both squads’ 2026 campaigns as the junior delivered at the 6:34 (man-up) and 6:08 (natural) marks to increase UCLA’s lead to 10-3. Jenna Kuiper (Sr., Hudsonvile, Mich.) (1:40) and Liz Williams (Jr., Pleasanton, Calif.) (1:18) concluded the scoring by whirling in shots for the Lakers and Bruins, respectively, to cap off an 11-4 contest.
Grand Valley State – which claimed sixth (2010; 2016; 2017), seventh (2024) and 11th (2022) in the Lakers’ five prior trips to Nationals – received single goals from Wiltrout, Henry, Gaier and Kuiper to account for the Lakers’ offensive output. Goalkeeper Elsie Roberts (Jr., Hudsonville, Mich.) turned aside seven shots in cage.
Winters (five), MacBeth (three), Hughes, Williams and DiMarco combined for UCLA’s 11-goal output to support a 10 save performance by netminder Noelle Antongiovanni (Jr., Novato, Calif.).
