ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend women’s water polo team fell to host Mercyhurst University, 19-10, and Wittenberg University, 11-9, on the first day of the 2023 Curtis Robinette Memorial Invitational hosted at the Hagerty Events Center.

The Lions scored 19 goals over two games led by seven markers from Nic Darrell (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge).  Darrell tallied three versus Mercyhurst and added four against Wittenberg.

Sarah Mancebo (Tulare, Calif./Mission Oak) made eight saves in taking the loss versus Mercyhurst, while Marley Persch (Hudsonville, Mic./Hudsonville) dres four kickouts and contributed three steals with a pair of two goals.

Facing Wittenbeg in a non-conference game, Shannon Young (Roseville, Calif./Roseville) keyed the Behrend attack with three strikes.

Darrell started the scoring against the Tigers, giving Behrend a 1-0 lead.  However, Wittenberg managed a 3-2 lead after the first quarter and held an 8-4 advantage by halftime.  The Lions kept chipping away at the lead to trim the final margin down to a pair prior to the final horn.
