GROVE CITY, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend women’s water polo team split a pair of matches on day two of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III-East Region weekend hosted by Grove City College. The Lions topped Wheaton College, 19-11, and fell in a 15-14 heart-breaker to the host Wolverines.
Against Wheaton, the Lyons and Lions were tied at one-all early in the first quarter. However, the Lions never trailed in the game as 11 players scored at least one goal.
Kaitlyn True, Hope Edwards and Priscilla Gill each tallied hat-tricks for Penn State Behrend, while Makenzie Rickerd added two goals and netminder Monica Villasenor posted five saves
Behrend had its best offensive output in the first quarter, taking an 8-3 lead. Leading 13-6 at halftime, PSB pulled away with six more goals in the second half in claiming an eight score victory.
The Lions needed to rally back to knock off Grove City.
Trailing 14-12, Penn State Behrend scored back-to-back goals to knot the game at 14-all. However, Emily Addison lobbed in the game-winning goal for Grove City with 21 seconds left to edge Behrend
The Lions held an 8-6 lead at halftime, but the Wolverines outscored Behrend 9-6 in the second half to closed out the league weekend with a win.
Darragh Martin led PSB with three goals, while Edwards, Susie Carillo and Lauren True tallied two goals.
Villasenor finished the game with seven saves.
