ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend women’s water polo team dropped an 18-4 decision to Salem University before falling 24-8 to host Gannon University in the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Erie Classic at the Hallman Aquatics Center.
In the Lions’ opening game, Salem scored 18 goals on 31 shots to overwhelm Penn State Behrend.
The Tigers scored five goals in the first, second and fourth quarter for the win led by four tallies from Kara Wicht and Courtney Repinz.
Karis Barth accounted for three of Behrend’s four goals in the loss with goalkeeper Monica Villasenor posting eight saves.
Meeting the host Golden Knights, Penn State Behrend fell behind early and was unable to rally back as Gannon jumped out to a 9-3 lead after the first quarter.
Darragh Martin notched two goals and Kaitlyn True added another in the first quarter for the Lions.
However, the Golden Knights held the Lions to two goals in the second and third quarters to pull away as Gannon racked up 12 goals in the middle two quarters prior to putting away a trio in the final eight minutes of regulation.
True scored PSB’s final goal in the fourth quarter.
