SAN JOSE, Calif. — San Jose State University seeks a part-time, temporary women’s water polo assistant coach.

The women’s water polo assistant coach reports directly to the women’s water polo (Spring) head coach and men’s water polo (Fall) head coach.  The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting in all phases of a Division I intercollegiate women’s and men’s water polo program which includes data analysis and maintenance, reporting, support, coaching, day-to-day operations, scheduling, recruiting, travel coordination, budgets and fund raising. Must be committed to the academic goals of the university and follow the rules and guidelines set forth by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) and the Golden Coast Conference.  Incumbent must address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Demonstrated commitment to the retention and academic success of student-athletes
  • Demonstrated coaching and recruiting success, experience in organizing and motivating student-athletes to maximum performance level
  • Demonstrated ability to work, communicate and develop rapport with students, alumni, administration and community groups
  • Demonstrated thorough knowledge and understanding of NCAA regulations
  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated successful Division-I collegiate water polo coaching experience preferred

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. SJSU will issue a conditional offer of employment to the selected candidate, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

The standard background check includes: criminal check, employment and education verification. Depending on the position, a motor vehicle and/or credit check may be required. All background checks are conducted through the university’s third party vendor, Accurate Background. SJSU will pay all costs associated with this procedure. Evidence of required degree(s) or certification(s) will be required at time of hire.
