PRINCETON, N.J. — Mount St. Mary’s University men’s water polo fell to Santa Clara University, 23-13, at the 2025 Princeton Invitational hosted by Princeton University in DeNunzio Pool.

After a 2-0 start for the Broncos, Ioannis Skliras commenced the Mountaineers’ scoring via a goal in the second minute of the quarter. Alexandros Belesis followed suit with six minutes of the clock prior to Chrysostomos Valavanis and Aaron Tarr flushing chances as the team trailed 7-4 at the end of the quarter. Two more Bronco goals came in to start the second quarter, broken up by a goal from Belesis. The Greek scored again with 22 seconds left on the clock to make it 13-6 heading into halftime.

William Matthews notched his first goal as a Mountaineer in the third quarter followed by a debut goal from John Zingo. Tarr and Belesis notched goals followed by a strike by Jack Fox.  Matthews notched his first ever Mount hat-trick in the fourth quarter by scoring two goals during the final eight minutes of regulation.

Belesis led the way for the Mountaineers with four goals, while Matthews notched a hattrick.  Tarr secured a brace with a par of markers to accompany solo tallies from Valavanis, Zingo, Fox and Skliras.
