BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Allison Skaggs (Sr., Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) of No. 7-ranked the University of Michigan tallied five goals over the span of three games during a tournament Most Valuable Player performance in leading the Wolverines to the 2017 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship. For her efforts, she is named the May 1 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Player of the Week.
Competing at Indiana University’s Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Indiana, she posted a hat-trick in a 22-2 defeat of Saint Francis University and added a pair in an 11-5 victory over No. 16 Harvard Unviersity prior to being held scoreless in a 5-4 defeat of No. 10 Princeton University to capture the program’s second consecutive league championship and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) berth.
It marks the third Player of the Week award of the year for Skaggs who previously garnered notice on February 6 and April 3. Further, it is her seventh career weekly accolade from the league office as she earned Rookie of the Week honors on January 20, March 3, March 10 and April 28 during the 2014 season. In addition, she was named the league’s 2017 Most Valuable Player last week.
