BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Maddy Steere (Fr., Pascoe Vale, Australia/St. Catherine’s School) of No. 7-ranked the University of Michigan tallied three goals, two assists and eight steals in four wins at the LMU Invitational on the campus of Loyola Marymount University to register notice as the March 20 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Rookie of the Week.
A first-time weekly honor recipient from the league office, Steere racked up three steals to accompany an assist in an 8-7 victory over No. 21 Loyola Marymount on Friday, March 17, prior to posting a goal and a steal in a 14-4 rout of No. 16 Long Beach State University. On Saturday, March 18, she notched a goal and an assist during a 20-4 blowout of Division III No. 2 Whittier College before turning back Division III No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, 14-4, with a goal and four steals.
As a team, Michigan held Long Beach State, Whittier and Pomona-Pitzer to less than five goals and outscored the Wolverines’ four foes by a total of 56-19 (9.25 goals per game).
