BRIDGEPORT, Pa — The only men’s water polo athlete to earn a spot in the Slippery Rock University Athletics Hall of Fame, Ryan Phillips ’99 holds a unique position in the history of the sport.
A two-time All-America selection and the 1998 Division II National Player of the Year, Phillips held the record for goals per game.
A native of Reading, Pennsylvania, he was named an All-America and All-Conference selection in both 1997 and 1998. The 1998 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Most Valuable Player, he also excelled as a swimmer.
The 1996 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Rookie of the Year in 1996, he was a member of the United States East and National “B” teams for water polo in 1998 and 1999.
A 2018 inductee to the Berks County Aquatic Hall of Fame (Pennsylvania) and the 2003 CWPA Officiating Rookie of the Year, Phillips is currently employed as the Area Vice President for Ambry Genetics in the Philadelphia metro region. Promoted to the position in January 2020 following a 17 month tenure at the company, he previously worked as the National Director of Health Systems for the company following a tenure as the director of national accounts for Xenex Disinfection Services, an international medical device company based in San Antonio, Texas, a role he moved into in 2016. Prior to joining Xenex, he spent 10 years working in progressively advanced roles for Verathon, Inc.
