BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. — The No. 17-ranked St. Francis College Brooklyn men’s water polo team earned a 16-10 victory over Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) foe Iona College as the Terriers’ program celebrated its senior class.

Prior to the match, St. Francis honored its 11 seniors who will be concluding their careers on Remsen Street this year. The 2019-20 men’s water polo senior class includes: Viktor Klauzer, Benedek Molnar, William Lapkin, Boris Posavec, Tadeu Rodrigues, Matheus Santos, Luka Budak, Alexander Teplitsky, Matin Alamzai, Ivan Stefanovic and team manager Vukasin Petrovic.

The Terriers opened up a three-goal lead right from the get-go as Stefanovic rattled the cage with a power play goal, followed by back-to-back goals from freshman Dominick Hevesi and Santos.

Iona managed to score its first goal of the contest at the 3:36 mark in the first half. The Terriers responded by scoring three-straight to take a 6-1 lead as they were fueled by tallies from Hevesi (two) and Rodrigues.

After the first quarter, St. Francis led Iona, 6-3. The Terriers picked up right where they left off in the first frame as they outscored the Gaels, 3-1, in the second period and took a 9-4 lead into halftime.

St. Francis and Iona traded goals in the second half as the Terriers maintained an advantage by outscoring Iona, 7-6, to close out the victory.

The Terriers had a balanced scoring attack en route to their 17th victory of the season as they had a total of eight student-athletes find the back of the net.

Hevesi led the Terriers with four goals and two assists. William Simpson, Lapkin, Rodrigues and Stefanovic all recorded two goals apiece.

Vladimir Mickic, Nikola Nikolic and Santos each registered a singly tally in the match.

Klauzer picked up the win in net as he made a team-high eight saves during the first half. Molnar recorded five saves of his own and a steal as he was in net for the second half of the game.
