BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — San Jose State University’s Cristina Fernandez (Jr., Mountain View, Calif./Saint Francis) scored 20 times during a 4-0 final weekend of Women’s Collegiate Club Bay Area Division regular season competition to earn status as the division’s March 2 Player of the Week.
Competing at the University of California-Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz, Calif., Fernandez scored twice in a 10-8 overtime win versus Fresno State University and tacked on nine markers in an 18-11 defeat of UC-Santa Cruz “B” on Saturday, February 28.
On Sunday, March 1, she broke free for five goals in an 11-8 victory over the host/Division III No. 1-ranked Banana Slugs to avenge a prior 10-4 defeat on February 14 at San Jose State. In the weekend finale, she tacked on four goals as the Spartans stopped the University of San Francisco to cap off a 7-1 regular season record.
San Jose State will return to action on Saturday-Sunday, March 14-15, at UC-Santa Cruz as the No. 2 seed for the Bay Area Division Championship with the group’s berth to the 2026 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship on the line.
