The University of Arizona, located in Tucson, Arizona, seeks a full-time Coordinator of Aquatic Programs to manage and supervise the day-to-day of Campus Recreation programs and student personnel. This position includes the supervision of Swim Instructors, Aquatic Fitness Instructors, Certification Instructors, and Student Coordinator.
The Program Coordinator for Aquatic Programming will assist the Assistant Director of Facility Operations and Safety Programming in developing, coordinating, and supervising the aquatic programs for Campus Recreation. Specific areas of oversight include aquatic programming, swim instructor and certification instructor training and development, family programming, late night programming, leisure programming, youth programming, and program evaluation. Coordinators are responsible for programming needs including personnel supervision, guest service, program and equipment evaluation, delivery of programs and services, program design and curriculum, and safety and risk management. Coordinates hiring, training, and supervising staff who oversee aquatic programming and deliver programs and services. The position requires representation of the Department of Campus Recreation in a fair, consistent, cooperative and positive manner in accordance with Department and University policy. The position reports to the Assistant Director, Facility Operations and Safety Programs.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate approximately 25 swim instructors, 5 Aquatic Fitness Instructors, 15 certification instructors, and 1 student program coordinator. Emphasis on developing and creating leadership training for all positions.
- Conduct staff meetings and safety in-service training for all hourly staff.
- Administer two formal staff performance assessments each semester for each hourly staff member.
- Conduct weekly meetings with student coordinator to monitor progress and assign responsibilities.
- Coordinate all aquatic and safety programming for the Student Recreation Pool and during all hours of operation. Specific programs include learn-to-swim programming, CPR and Lifeguard certification programming, Log Rolling, late night programming, and youth programming.
- Assist with management of the Student Recreation Center aquatic facility, shared aquatic facility storage, and Outdoor Conference Room.
- Coordinate and evaluate swim lesson programs and all aquatic safety certification programs and assist with internal staff lifeguard training as needed.
- Coordinate participant focused non-instructional aquatic programs focused on attracting new users, enhancing the aquatic users experience, and income generation.
- Assist with supervision of the set-up of the Student Recreation Center aquatic facility for aquatic programs and specialty rentals
- Streamline program registration, enrollment, and payment via online, phone, and in-person following university and department guidelines.
- Oversee and develop aquatic and reservation-based youth programming- Assist in communication and payment with aquatic rental groups
- Oversee Aquatic program entry
- Solicit and evaluate input from participants and groups participating in aquatic programs and non-competitive facility rentals
- Collaborate with student organizations and campus partners to host special events throughout the academic calendar to help generate revenue for program.
- Develop and coordinate all components of participant focused incentive programs.
- Propose, develop and implement new programs and activities based on the needs of the users in order to increase participation and income.
- Propose programming and corresponding policy changes based on current research concerning participation, interest, trends, fiscal analysis, and resource availability.
- Maintain current knowledge of all areas of responsibility. Anticipate and identify issues and areas of improvement, and produce viable and logical solutions.Utilize strategic planning, conceptualization, critical thinking, independent judgment, problem solving, creativity, initiative, vision and innovation to ensure quality in all areas of responsibility.
- Coordinate and directly leads certification courses in American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid and American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification for employees and the community.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director, Facility Operations and Safety Programs on marketing and promotion of aquatic programs, policies, and website updates. Submit requests as needed.
- Collaborate with Assistant Director, Facility Operations and Safety Programs for all aquatic program needs.
- Collaborate with Assistant Director, Facility Operations and Safety Programs and Facilities team to communicate programs and policies, and ensure RecTrac data is updated for all registration periods (i.e. all program dates, prices, descriptions, and receipt content).
- Ensure that Campus Recreational Sports’ Risk Management plan is implemented.
- Ensure the safety of all aquatic program equipment and aquatic facilities.
- Coordinate recertification courses for all aquatic hourly staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
- Administrative/coordinative professional level experience in aquatics facility oversight, including facility inspection, audits and mechanical operations.
- Demonstrated experience with lifeguard in-service training programs.

Rate of Pay: $43,729
Compensation Type: salary at 1.0 full-time equivalency (FTE)
